IRTS RADIO NEWS BULLETIN Sunday March 31st 1996 Results of the SSB Field Day 1995 The SSB Field Day is held each year on over the first weekend in September and seven Echo India stations took part in 1995, three in the open section and four in the restricted section. The open section was won by the EastCork Group EI7M, Cork Radio Club EI5CRC were runners-up and South Dublin Radio Club EI2SDR were in third position. In the restricted section, Blackrock Radio Scouts, EI1DD led the field, followed by Wicklow Wireless Society EI2WW in second place. Third place went to the Irish Amateur Radio Association for Blind & Disabled EI2HAM with the Dundalk entry EI2NFD taking the fourth spot. This was the best supported SSB Field Day for some time and congratulations to the winners in both sections and indeed to all stations who took part. Remember CW field day will be held over the June bank holiday weekend and now is the time to be making plans. ________________________________ Cork Repeater Group Annual General Meeting The Annual General Meeting of the Cork Repeater Group was held on Thursday March 22nd at Wilton Park House in Cork City. A fine attendance representing all areas of County Cork heard a detailed report on the finances and activities for the past year from Treasurer John Mooney EI6AK and Technical Manager Tony Bourke EI2CV. The Officers were returned unopposed and Chairman again for the coming year is Aedan O'Meara EI3EG. The Secretary is Fr. Finbarr EI1CS and the Treasurers post is filled again by John Mooney EI6AK. Committee Members are Jim Barry EI8GS, Anthony O'Rourke EI2HY and Mike Kiely EI2IB. A decision was made to purchase a new repeater for 70 centimetres and users can look forward to a much improved service on 70 in the coming months. Subscriptions remain at 15 pounds and should be sent to John Mooney EI6AK, The Cottage, South Douglas Road, Cork City. ________________________________ Limerick Radio Club AGM, Lunch & Rally Limerick Radio Club celebrated their 50th anniversary with a lunch and rally at the Limerick Inn Hotel on Sunday last March 24th. The lunch was a sell out with many of the old timers in the area getting together again for the first time in many years. The attendance was addressed by IRTS President Jim Ryan who paid tribute to the major part played by members of Limerick Radio Club in the hobby over the years. Four IRTS Presidents came from Limerick Radio Club, Sean Merry EI3B, Brian Fogarty EI6X, Tom O'Connor EI9U and Eoin OKelly EI6BX. Other speakers included present Club Chairman Dermot Gleeson EI2GT, Mrs. Merry, wife of the late EI3B, Dermot Merry son of the late EI3B, Eoin O'Kelly EI6BX and John Dolan EI5AD. During the lunch, the new Limerick 2 metre repeater was officially switched on by Eamon Cassidy EI5AJ. The rally, held in very nice surroundings, was very well attended by both traders and punters and proved to be a very sociable event, being the first held in Limerick for a few years. The Club Annual General Meeting was also held during the afternoon and we will carry a full report next week. ________________________________ Region 4 Meeting The traditional meeting of IRTS Region Four, chaired by IRTS President Jim Ryan EI3DP, was held after the Limerick Club AGM and was attended by members from Limerick, Clare, Galway, Tipperary and Kerry. Matters of both local and national interest were discussed and clubs from the region gave detailed reports of their activities. ________________________________ Midland Radio Experimenters Club The Annual General Meeting of the Midland Radio Experimenters Club will be held on Tuesday next April the 2nd in the Jolly Mariner, Athlone at 8.30 pm. All members and intending members are requested to attend.
